Introduction
Out of all the pests surrounding our homes, mosquitoes are among the most annoying invaders around. We not only see and feel them in person, but the yearly buzz is so loud that the media covers the story during prime time, with tips and tricks to help suppress their activity and bite!
About Mosquitoes
There are many species of mosquitoes around and like any true professional we take steps to identify exactly what we are dealing with to ensure that we provide the best service around.
There are about 55 species found in Texas and 170 species nationally. The good news is that a lot of the species have similar habits that Reliant Pest Management is able to absolutely suppress in order for you to enjoy your lawn again.
The common mosquito species found in Texas are:
- Asian Tiger Mosquito – Aedes Albopictus
- Yellow Fever Mosquito – Aedes Egypti
- Southern Mosquito – Culex Quinquefasciatus
- House Mosquito – Culex
- Marsh Mosquito – Anopheles
Things you can do
Here are a few things you can do that will greatly help in the reduction of the mosquito population around your home!

- Pots

- Toys (collect small bodies of water)
- Plastics ( pool covers, bottles,
- Bird baths ( scrub the walls of the bird bath and replace water 2x/week)
- Maintain your shrubs

Quick Facts
- Only female mosquitoes take a blood meal to lay eggs (they bite)
- Male Mosquitoes feed on nectar, honeydew and fruit juices (so do the females)
- The saliva in the bite of the mosquito is what causes you to itch and carries pathogens that may lead to mosquito borne diseases.
- Mosquitoes do not regurgitate blood.
- Mosquitos easily hold the title as the World’s deadliest animal; responsible for killing over 1 million per year.
- Responsible for transmitting disease like Dengue, west nile virus, yellow fever, encephalitis… Can also cause Canine Heartworm Disease (poor pups)
- Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide or dry ice. (There’s a home remedy in there somewhere)
